Had to put my SJ in the dunkirk garage (aylsham) this morning. On friday afternoon it stoped in a cloud of steam at the top of the hill from edgefield to holt. Luckily no serious damage done, just needed a new oil pressure sitch. However I've been told that oil my be leaking from the inlet manifold gasket, and now upon startup I become surounded in white smoke from the exuast. I was also told that by ripping out the non-working automatic choke on the carb and replacing with a manual one I should be able to lower the very high idle (about 2000rmp) to a more normal one. Will this actually work?

If it's White smoke it's more likely water burning. And oil pressure switch should not make it stop, does it start and run ok from cold?

It's being sorted now by dunkirk garage in aylsham now, it looks like its the head gasket, hasn't gone too bad though.
