My name is Mark I am Area manager for the Red Cross Home from Hospital service in Suffolk Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Our service supports vulnerable people in their own homes after they have been discharged from hospital.
every year during extreme heat and extreme cold we perform welfare telephone calls to all of our closed and active cases. these calls check that the individual is coping or not as many of our referrals live alone and can be isolated. On a few of these calls we discover that a some people either have no food in or need some form of emergency assistance with purchasing heating cards etc.
Now here is my ask, last year during the snow we had to perform a number of physical visits and this was extremely difficult and risky to get my volunteers to do in their own vehicles, I was wondering if at all possible you could point me in the right direction to get some people with 4x4 vehicles to assist my volunteers in getting to these cases. there is not a huge amount of them but each one we need to visit is vital. your guys would not need to do a visit just ensure my volunteer or staff member get there safe and home again. We are a charity as you probably know but i can secure 40p a mile for any vehicle used during these checks, we can provide 1st aid training to all your drivers if wanted, basically we totally willing to work with you to try and get this safety net in place before winter comes.
if you think this is possible or you know of some handy contacts that could assist please don't hesitate to contact me via email markbradley@redcross.org.uk tel 01473 219260 / 07595279311
