hey all new to the 4x4 scene..well actually that new i own a front wheel drive car looking to start doing some offroading and really looking for the cheapest entry route. i.e do i trade in my car for an old banger and use it offroad and on road (would have to get me to work). although my poor old car is only worth around £5/600 or do i save some pennies and buy a car for destruction and have it live on a trailor and hire a garage (dont mind hiring a garage but would obviously have to fit inside it... any tipe hints would be cool oh and hi by the way lol

buy a disco, very reliable and in your price range. and a brilliant 4x4 vehicle. a lot of the members have disco's and use them as daily drivers. just be careful when your thrashing it about!!
Welcome Jemz

carefull?? hmm that doesnt sound much fun!
yea been looking at discos, well actually been looking at defenders but they're all a little pricy plus i'm sure i will wreck the first one i play with so best go for a cheapy.
so disco it is any "best engine" ones to aim for or is it a case that any disco will do what i want happily

Petrol is OK if you have deep pockets and don't want to drive through to much deep water you will how ever get a much better petrol (V8) disco for your money, but i would recommend a 200tdi disco if you are after a cheep land rover but look out for rot especially in the front inner wings and the boot floor don't buy anything if the seller wont let you lift the carpet in the boot like i say rot is a disco's worst enemy so check every inch of the under body

Gaffer tape works much better for holding the rusty bits together anyway you cant talk about rust you had to do 3 days worth of welding when you got your rangie, so is that a yes for the swimming comp you really don't have a reason to back out now you have a snorkle

id say disco or range rover, i much prefer the 200tdi engine for off road even tho i got a 300tdi now
my old 200tdi took a bit of a bashing but never had any real problems unlike my 300 lol
check out the for sale section
